Unix Consultant - to £35k - Cambridge
A Unix Consultant is required for our Cambridge client. The successful candidate will be involved in pre-sales work, system design, build and deployment of web servers on Unix platforms.
Essential skills required are: in-depth knowledge of Unix (e.g. Solaris, Linux, HP*UX etc.); web server experience (Apache, IIS, iPlanet, Zeus); a thorough understanding of networking, security and fault tolerance; experience in Unix scripting and programming (Perl, Python, C, C++) ideally in the context of internet services or web applications; extensive client facing experience, ideally in a consulting role; a `can do` attitude and the flexibility to work independently whilst still part of a team; first class or upper second class degree is required. Desirable skills include: pre-sales experience; a background in internet services, web hosting, e-commerce;good understanding of application servers, LDAP and SQL databases, and XML; familiarity with the performance and capacity of diverse hardware platforms (e.g. Sun, Intel, HP, IBM etc.); experience of leading a project team; Microsoft Windows Server and .NET knowledge.
