LS-NYC is Seeking an Individual Network Consultant
Legal Services NYC, a free civil legal services provider to low-income New Yorkers, is immediately seeking an individual Network Consultant to work with our Chief Network Engineer and technology team in our lower Manhattan office. The consultant would assist in planning, managing, developing and documenting our data & voice network infrastructure.
LS-NYC is looking for a consultant who wants to help a great non-profit and work 15-20 hours per week alongside our staff. The engagement would be for a minimum of four months and may continue for a longer period. Please e-mail your resume, references along with your hourly and/or per diem rates.
For information purposes, the primary responsibilities of the chief network engineer are:
• Directs and oversees LS-NYC`s local and wide area network infrastructure including but not limited to: network appliances (routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN devices), application and file servers, operating systems, and VoIP systems.
• Plans and designs infrastructure to support new applications and technologies. Continually works to improve network security, reliability and functionality.
• Administers heterogeneous application server infrastructure, including Active Directory, Terminal Services, Exchange, SQL Server, and Apache. Operating systems include Windows Server 2003, OS X, various flavors of Linux, and Solaris.
• Administers, configures, implements VoIP infrastructure including PRI gateways and IP PBX software.
• Plans, implements, and manages security and other controls needed to ensure the integrity and privacy of data.
• Participates in the development of policies and procedures for use of network facilities and then ensures compliance through training and system auditing.
• Prepares system documentation, files, and records; co-develops training material; trains co-workers.
• Manages disaster preparation for network services and data
• Advances personal and IT state of the art through study, training, conferences, research and experimentation.
• Analyzes server and network activity and maintains performance monitoring systems as well as other software programs e.g., intrusion detection, virus scanning applications, etc.
• Trains and supervises network and telecommunications staff (currently the Network Engineer).
• Directs and/or supports the activities of technology support staff/consultants/interns.
The skills and abilities required of our chief network engineer are:
- Windows server 2003, active directory, exchange, SQL server.
- Broad knowledge of LAN/WAN design and configuration. enterprise firewall, router & layer 3 switch configuration, VPN, QOS, VLAN, OSPF, BGP, etc.
- Competence with Linux/Unix, Solaris, OS X server software.
- VoIP systems, including SipX and Interactive Intelligence.
