Junior Graphic Designer —Temp to Permanent Hire

The Jr. Graphic Designer should be more than just a beautiful portfolio. The ideal candidate should also be able to demonstrate the ability to conceptualize and think strategically, sometimes on the run. The Jr. Graphic Designer should not only understand the basics, like, what kerning and leading is but be able to apply it correctly. We’re looking for someone who pays attention to the details. Should also be passionate about the work, and demonstrate willingness and determination to learn and grow in an industry that will push you to the limits at times. The Jr. Graphic Designer will report to the Creative Director, but may be assigned tasks from other members of the team or by our executive staff.

As with all team members, the Jr. Graphic Designer must follow the policies described in the company handbook, attend all internal meetings, and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times while working to instill a positive work environment at the agency.

A successful Jr. Graphic Designer shows proficiency in the following areas:

Job Requirements

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat)

• Strong production skills and basic understanding of typography

• Comprehensive knowledge of elements of design

• Ability to understand and apply client branding that is consistent to guidelines

• Ability to operate in a Mac environment

• Some agency experience is preferred but not necessary

• Ability to effectively and calmly manage time in high-pressure situations

• Ability to work longer hours when needed

• Familiar with making press-ready files

• Interactive design is a plus (specifically, HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Flash)

Primary Tasks

• Executing tight designs and layouts from creative concepts

• Edits to existing creative

• Production work (resizes, digital assets modification, typesetting)

• Pre-flighting and creating press-ready files

Professional Relationships

• Proactively contribute ideas to projects

• Regularly make recommendations to project lead on how to improve a project

• Work with project/team lead to effectively complete scope of project or creative brief

• Able to recognize when it is appropriate to ask for help and guidance

• Consistently demonstrate ability to successfully move into problem-solving mode whenever challenges or concerns arise

• Consistently work well with and demonstrate respect for colleagues at all levels and contribute to a positive work environment.
