The Data Analyst is a key role on Meetup’s Strategy Team. You’ll be part of a SWAT team that conducts extensive research to inform and influence the direction of our product and company. We are looking for a unique individual to help drive all things quantitative and to evolve into a thought leader on the team.
This new role is a great position for a candidate with a traditional quantitative background looking to branch into business. There is tremendous room for growth in this position. The ideal candidate will learn how to apply his/her quantitative skills to strategy and in doing so make an enormous impact on the company and product.
Primary responsibilities:
Manage periodic reporting of key performance indicators while providing insightful analysis of website and marketing data.
Create ad-hoc reports from SQL database and web analytics tools as needed to guide strategic insights.
Work with teams throughout the company as an analytical contributor to provide data-driven insights that lead to a better user experience.
Build reporting systems to streamline the operations of internal teams.
Become the company data expert, owning parts of the data model and optimizing it.
Proactively inspire colleagues at Meetup to address opportunities you’ve discovered.
Other activities may include:
Developing, executing, and analyzing split testing routines for key website experiences.
Helping develop profitability, retention, customer profile / segmentation, and ROI models.
Participating in data-driven strategic analysis of potential growth opportunities (new services, price optimization, new markets, etc.).
Requirements:
Bachelors’ Degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, etc.).
2-4 years’ experience (professional or academic) with SQL, RDBMS, and data warehousing concepts.
1-3 years’ experience with Java and/or scripting languages (Python, PHP, Perl).
Manic attention to detail.
Ready to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
Ability to work well independently or in a team.
Highly organized, self-motivated thinker.
Desire to think about data at a strategic level to tie it back to business insights.
Extensive experience and interest in latest web trends and players in the social networking space.
The ideal candidate will also have:
Extensive experience working with large datasets, particularly with statistical software packages (R, SAS, SPSS, or similar) applied to real-world business situations.
Experience working with web analytic packages such as Omniture, Google Analytics, etc.
Experience with A/B testing, factorial design, preferably in the context of web businesses.
Strong experience programming with OO languages and web technologies (Javascript, Ajax, SOAP, etc.).
Market research, direct marketing and strategic consulting experience.
