The School Business Manager directs all operational functions of school, including, but not limited to, payroll, purchasing, record keeping and archiving, pupil personnel, human resources, office management and organization, accounting, school transportation, food service, technology, physical plant issues and other operational matters. He/She supervises staff responsible for carrying out these activities and reports to the assistant principal.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates transition to Governors Island, including creating and managing systems for ferry service, on-island transportation, facilities maintenance, custodial service, mail, and technology.
Accountable for running a smooth, functional, efficient school operation
Serves as chief liaison with UA’s CFN to solve problems and navigate bureaucracy for administrative matters relating to human resources, business, finance, contracts and school operations.
Serves as point of contact regarding operational matters for external constituents, including community groups and other city agencies.
Manages combined fundraised and DOE purchasing and donation management.
Attends and/or prepares and presents related professional development workshops.
Reviews and expedites all contracts and school purchases by utilizing contract vendors and online purchasing accounts
Reviews contracts and bids to ensure compliance with established purchasing procedures.
Supports fundraising staff in grant administration, including the preparation of annual progress reports
Qualification Requirements
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following areas; accounting, auditing, budget, contract administration, financial administration, management, personnel, or a closely related field; or
A master’s degree from an accredited college in accounting, business, finance, educational administration, management, personnel or public administration, or a closely related field and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the areas described above.
Evidence of understanding of, and commitment to THE URBAN ASSEMBLY NEW YORK HARBOR SCHOOL vision, educational approach, and goals
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both through speech and writing.
Proficiency with Microsoft business applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
Familiarity with Department of Education operational systems (including Galaxy, FAMIS, Cybershift, CAP, ATS, ARIS, HSST) preferred.
Fluency in Spanish preferred
Management skills and experience to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, including vendors, service providers, students, teachers, support staff, leadership team, parents, and donors.
Work schedule: Full time, 12 month position, beginning immediately. It is important to note that our school is moving to Governors Island in June 2010.
